SHAKESPEARE BARES HIS SOUL AT LCC
The Blue Door Theatre at Lane Community College will be awash with passions on Saturday, June 9, at 2:00 and 7:00 P.M., Building 6, on the main campus. Admission is free.
Student actors are joined on stage by experienced community actors and faculty members.
The event began more than 20 years ago as a collaboration between Theatre Arts instructor Judith Roberts, and retiring English instructor Bill Woolum. It evolved into the Term's End Shakespeare Showcase, a two-hour saga of theatrical pieces, overflowing with emotions - love, jealousy, compassion, honor, lust, revenge, guilt, and humor.
Guest artists will include musicians Janet Naylor and Wayne Gilbertson, and actor Joe Cronin, who also assists with coaching actors. Swordplay coach is John Elliott III.
The quarterly event is produced by the Student Productions Association (SPA), who also sponsored the construction of the London Globe stage replica, by master carpenter Scott Williams.
Director Judith Roberts says the student actors are hooked by Shakespeare's enthralling stories and magnetic characters, and then, their work begins. She says, "These very modern actors strive to make Shakespeare completely comprehensible. His remarkable tales, expressed in richly-textured language, still serve to illuminate our common ground of humanity. The program will appeal to Shakespeare-lovers as well as to people who just want a wild ride on the currents of the Bard's imagination."
The program includes scenes from Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Measure for Measure, The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, Henry IV/ Part 1, Henry V, Othello, Julius Caesar, The Taming of the Shrew, Richard III, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Titus Andronicus, As You Like It, All's Well That Ends Well, and Troilus and Cressida.
Seating is open. Audience members must be 10 years or older to be admitted.
Donations are welcome, to support the continuing efforts of the Student Productions.
