Narrative:
Department administrators are responsible for certifying that all volunteer work is performed:
- At the volunteer's own initiative, and
- Without any expectation of pay.
College employees may occasionally work for the college as volunteers, provided the following conditions are met:
- The work performed is not the same type of work the employee performs in the course of regular employment, and
- The work is performed outside the employee's normal work hours.
If the conditions above are not met, the individual must be compensated for the hours worked, either as an employee or an independent contractor (see Employment Categories and/or Independent Contractors: Definitions).
It is the department manager's responsibility to make certain that new volunteers are provided an orientation to the college and to their rights and responsibilities as college volunteers volunteers and that the Volunteer Waiver of Liability form is signed and kept on file by the department.
